Affordable Homes Open in Greenbriar

A vacant property in southwest Atlanta has been transformed into 448 affordable homes for families and older adults.

Atlanta Housing and its partners celebrated the opening of the Flats and Villas at Stone Hogan in the Greenbriar community on September 11th. The development includes 256 apartments for families, ranging from 1-3 bedrooms, and 192 senior apartments, featuring elevators and accessible green spaces. Construction was completed about a year ahead of schedule.

Stone Hogan was designed to provide more than an affordable place to live.

Residents will have access to services through partnerships with Star-C, Emory University, Morehouse College and local healthcare providers. Those resources include free health screenings, nutrition classes, after-school programming and community gardens. The development also served as a training site for Atlanta Housing's partnership with the Georgia Building Trades Academy YouthBuild program, giving participants hands-on exposure to construction careers.

Atlanta Housing says the larger goal is to connect affordable housing with opportunities for education, workforce development, financial empowerment and long-term stability.

A Public and Private Investment

The project is also part of Atlanta's larger effort to build and preserve 20,000 affordable homes across the city.
