Georgia Emergency Housing Vouchers Will End in December. What Do Renters Need to Know?

Georgia's Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program will end December 31, 2026. The program was created in 2021 to help eligible households experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or fleeing domestic violence or other unsafe situations obtain housing.
This change only affects Emergency Housing Vouchers. Regular Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers and other DCA voucher programs are not ending.
What happens to affected households?
Beginning January 2027, households will no longer receive assistance through this program. Residents are not automatically required to move out on December 31 but they will need to cover the full rent payment.
What assistance is available?
DCA is offering Housing Navigators to help affected households search for affordable housing, explore other housing programs, and prepare for possible moves.
Current EHV participants are also automatically being added to DCA's regular Housing Choice Voucher waiting list. However, joining the waiting list does not guarantee another voucher or continued rental assistance.
October virtual office hours
DCA is holding virtual office hours on October 15, 22, and 29, from noon to 1 p.m. for affected households to ask questions about their assistance and available housing options.
Residents can call 470-802-4707 to request housing navigation assistance.
