New Housing Center for Homeless Veterans Opens in Griffin, GA

A new transitional housing center for veterans experiencing homelessness has opened in Griffin, located in Spalding County about 40 miles south of Atlanta.
The Spalding County Veterans Center, located at 732 West Broad Street, celebrated its grand opening June 6. The project grew from years of work by the Griffin Spalding Military Affairs Committee, a local nonprofit whose mission includes eliminating veteran homelessness in the community.
A Step Between Homelessness and Permanent Housing
The center provides transitional housing, which is temporary housing combined with services intended to help someone become stable enough to move into permanent housing.
The Griffin Spalding Military Affairs Committee estimates that 100 to 130 veterans in Spalding County experience homelessness at any given time. The new center gives local veterans somewhere to stabilize while connecting with resources and working toward longer term independence.
That's particularly important in a community where homeless veterans previously had limited dedicated housing options close to home.
